Modular and compatible with a host of Canon and third-party accessories, the EOS C100 brings true cinema quality to independent event videographers and video production organizations. The EOS C100 sports the Super 35mm Canon CMOS Sensor and Canon DIGIC DV III Image Processor of the C300 and records at 24Mbps using an AVCHD codec for easy integration in existing production workflows. Operability and customization make the EOS C100 an ideal camera for one-person operation while providing expanded professional capabilities such as HDMI output with embedded Time Code, support for external recorders, remote operation, and complete manual control over both video and audio recording.
Pair the powerful and portable EOS C100 with the full range of Canon EF, EF-S and EF Cinema lenses, from fish-eye to macro to super telephoto, and make this expanded vista your new starting point on your cinematic adventure.
The EOS C100 is equipped with the advanced 16:9 Super 35mm Canon CMOS sensor. The large sensor format opens up cinematic vistas and permits a shallow depth-of-field for arresting images. The 8.3 megapixel sensor and its fine pixel pitch permit greater sensitivity in low light while minimizing noise. The EOS C100 captures Red, Green, and Blue channels independently for Full HD 1920×1080 video. The resulting picture features the color and image quality of a three-chip camera with a single sensor. The optimized pixel count allows the camera to avoid additive processing as a result of skipping lines during capture; sensor sensitivity is maintained and aliasing or other degradation of the image is prevented.
Designed and built by Canon for the highest quality HD RGB processing, the DIGIC DV III Image Processor uses proprietary circuits and architecture to deliver exceptional image quality at the highest speeds, with low power consumption and minimal heat output. It processes the RGB image data—originating from the single CMOS sensor of the camera—into three channels (Red, Blue and Green) to maintain the rich resolution and clean color fidelity formerly possible only in three-chip sensor designs.
Exceptional Low Light Sensitivity and Wide Dynamic Range
The EOS C100 incorporates the first Canon CMOS sensor designed specifically for high frame rate motion pictures, offering not only high resolution and shallow depth-of-field but also high sensitivity with low noise. Working together, Canon’s Super 35mm sensor and DIGIC DV III Image Processor achieve a remarkably high signal-to-noise ratio that enables recordings with great detail and dynamic range even in minimal light. Users will appreciate the new camera’s 12 stops of dynamic range at all ISO speed settings from 320 to 20,000

Arri L7-C COLOR CONTROL LED FRESNEL Now in Rental at CSI Rentals NYC
The ARRI L7-C Colour LED Fresnel at the vanguard of a new generation of lighting equipment that can be seamlessly integrated into the studio or onto the set without sacrificing features or performance.
The key characteristic of any Fresnel is flood to spot capability and the L7-C meets and exceeds expectations with an impressive beam angle of 15-50°. There’s simply no learning curve or accommodation to be made when swapping out L7s fixture for fixture with standard Fresnels. In fact, you’re not going to be moving them around or juggling scrims in high places thanks to the 100 – 0% dimming capability.
The Arri L7-C is a “fully tune-able” white light source, too, allowing you to match existing fixtures from a warm 2,700K to ice-blue 10,000K. Light intensity as well as colour temperature and +/- green are controllable via DMX or RDM, as well as matching specific colour shades and skin tones through the full gamut colour mixing feature. And the L7-C will be seen but not heard thanks to its dead quiet passive cooling system. While inclement weather might annoy the talent it won’t kill your light since L7-C has an IP54 rating making it impervious to falling rain and splashing water.
The L7-C LED source produces 1,000W of light while drawing only 220W for a savings of a whopping 75% over similar output tungsten lights. And low heat means lower AC bills in the studio. You can actually run 9 L7s off of a 20A, 110V outlet as opposed to two 1,000W or three 650W standard fixtures. When it comes to performance and features, the L7-C might just be the perfect light source.
- Colour Controllable
- Full Gamut Colour Mixing
- Quiet Passive Cooling
- IP54 Water Resistant Rating
- Sliding Stirrup
- DMX Control
- Upgradeable Via USB
- Long Life LEDs
- Very Low Electrical Draw
Quality of light begins with the field. Smooth intensity, uniform colour, even illumination: all are traits shared by the L-Series and conventional ARRI Fresnels. And, as Fresnel fixtures are already workhorses of the lighting industry, designers and technicians now have nothing new to learn in order to use LED technology.
A key element of the versatility of traditional Fresnels is the ability to spot and flood the beam as needed. Whether it’s a flood field for a pullback shot or a tight spot for a bright highlight, the continuous focusability of the L-Series performs lives up to your expectations. And, unlike traditional Fresnels, which have significant light waste in spot focus, the efficient L-Series optical system maintains the same field lumens in all focus positions.
Versatile, Controllable Beam
Whether shaping the beam to isolate talent and set elements or cutting the field to eliminate spill light, controllability is crucial to lighting. L-Series Fresnels provide the same ability to cut and shape with barndoors and flags that we have come to expect from conventional Fresnels.
Even Light Field
Clear, defined shadows have traditionally have only been a trait of single source tungsten and daylight fixtures. ARRI L-Series Fresnels provide the same single shadow properties designers expect, delivering natural results.
Colour: Vibrant, Full-spectrum Lighting
With the L7-C, fully tune-able white light can be adjusted for different skin tones, camera sensors and mixed-light environments, while specific colour shades can be matched through full gamut colour mixing. Unlike other LED fixtures, this level of colour control does not involve compromising the quality of the light field: the L-Series is unique in combining uniform light and single shadow rendition with absolute control of colour attributes.
To satisfy the rigorous sound requirements of modern broadcast studios, the groundbreaking L-Series passive cooling system incorporates no moving parts or fans and is therefore completely silent; it can be used in ambient air temperatures of up to 95° (35°C).
True Blue-style focus knobs provide the precise adjustment and rapid flood-to-spot that users enjoy from manual, mechanical control. Knobs on both sides of the fixture ensure easy access from all positions, eliminating the need for awkward reaching around the fixture. Turning the knobs is neither tedious nor time-consuming; full flood-to-spot can be achieved in only three turns.
The ARRI sliding stirrup design enables precise adjustment of the fixture’s center of gravity, to compensate for front-end accessories. It also creates the option of pulling the fixture back and reducing its hanging height.
The high strength tilt lock provides extremely secure locking, eliminating movement and slippage and ensuring that the fixtures will stay where you put them.
For broadcast studios, remote fixture control is of paramount importance, and all functions of the L7 are controllable through DMX. You can regulate intensity, color temperature and plus/minus green, which can be switched to manipulate hue and saturation, directly from your control console. The L7 is also fully RDM compatible, providing bi-directional feedback and reporting of parameters including system status, hours on the light engine, calibration data from the internal color sensor and current DMX address (with the ability to remotely assign and address all fixtures in a DMX network).
Lighting teams working on location will love the versatility they can achieve in small to medium-size packages. Nine ARRI L7 Fresnels can be run off a single 20 A, 110V outlet, as opposed to only two 1000W or three 650 W tungsten Fresnels

CSI Rentals pro camera tech test on Canon eos 1DX
Finally, after an extremely delayed release from February to July 2012, the Canon 1DX has arrived in the hands of many waiting customers. This camera firmly nestles itself in the family tree of the previous generations of 1D cameras, right in between the 1Dmk4 and 1DSmk3. The 1DX seems to be more similar to the 1Dmk4 based on its qualities. It’s as if Canon took the 1Dmk4 and gave it a full frame sensor (up from APS-H), more resolution (18.1 megapixels up from 16.1), and new processors (two digic 5 and one digic 4 up from just two digic 4) for faster frame rates, better metering and overall better image quality at all sensitivities.
In terms of feel, this camera cannot be beat. It is probably the most solid feeling and performing DSLR camera to date that I have tried. While its durable construction may bump up its weight, that weight makes the camera easier to steady when using handheld (providing your lens is decently handhold-able) and provides a great feeling of security. This camera will definitely stand up to more than a few knocks and drops in its lifetime making it perfect for doing anything you can to get your perfect shot. The 1DX is also weather sealed (provided that your lens is sealed as well) and in that respect it delivers in spades. Many of the buttons and dials are sealed with rubber rings, not only improving the seal but giving them an excellent feel when pressed.
It is easy to tell that Canon went all out with the design of this camera from the fact that there are two full sized Compact Flash card slots inside to make it far easier on the photographer to use established, professional media for redundancy without concern for investing in new, expensive, or less robust memory.
This camera can be used for any kind of professional photography be it great looking portraits in the studio, or detailed wide landscapes in the field. The in camera metering is superb for grabbing shots on the fly, perfectly exposing shots with a high contrast so that maximum detail is retained in the shadows and highlights.
Autofocusing on this camera was excellent with Canon’s EF glass. I had very few missed shots among the many that I took. And the speed of the focusing is second to none in the current market of DSLR cameras. Even when shooting at the full burst rate of 12 frames every second autofocus was retained and as accurate as ever. Color rendition in the typical Canon fashion was warm and punchy even when using the neutral picture style for JPEG’s.
Cameras have vastly improved in their ability to photograph in low light. Even consumer cameras have better resolution at high sensitivities thanks to new sensor technology and larger sensors. However, the higher end cameras have evolved as well and the 1DX has become an absolute wonder in low light with its outstanding performance at astronomically high ISO values around 51,200. So if you need to keep up your shutter speed to capture the action, higher ISO speeds are not out of the question even when high quality is needed. This is especially great when using slower lenses or when photographing for sports or journalism.
While obviously taking a back seat to the photography aspect of the camera, the video features are plentiful with the addition of some new professional options. First and foremost, the ability to run timecode and sync with other pro camcorders or pro audio devices. Secondly there are visible audio meters in live view that are viewable while recording as well. Audio levels and other settings can also be adjusted silently while recording using the new touch pad inside the rear scroll dial. All these features have been inherited by the 5Dmk3 which, while announced later was released earlier. One thing that I and some other reviewers noticed about the video is that it is sharper than any Canon DSLR to date (the 1DC has not been released at time of writing) and can even compare to some discrete camcorders in terms of video quality. One big plus however, is that this camera can take advantage of its super high ISO stills capabilities in video. I bumped the ISO to 6400 and above and I was still met with a usable image. The image was grainy, but not overly ugly like some other cameras would have rendered those sensitivity levels. One caveat though, there is no headphone jack like on the 5Dmk3. But for those of us who have shot with any of the earlier DSLRs there are always workarounds.
As I have stated before, this is a beast of a camera in every aspect. It feels and performs like a high end professional camera should (and takes the inevitable beating that a high end professional camera will without breaking a sweat). Overall, this camera exceeded my expectations in terms of usability and you really have to try it to believe it. Come in to our Manhattan storefront for any questions or reservations. Or alternatively, rent it online at www.csirentals.com or by phone at 212-243-7368 (RENT).
